ASIS International names new Latin American Caribbean Regional Board

ASIS International has announced the selection of its Latin American Caribbean Regional Board (LACRB) at ASIS LATAM and CA 2024 Integrated Security Congress in Costa Rica.

The leadership team will be effective in January 2025. 

Following a nomination and selection process, the board represents a diverse cross-section of security industry leaders from across the Latin American Caribbean region. 

“Increasing strength and professionalism”

Gerardo de Lago, CPP (Mexico), Chair of the LACRB Nominating Committee noted: “The quality of candidates this year was outstanding, highlighting the increasing strength and professionalism within our Latin American and Caribbean security community.

“This new board combines an ideal mix of industry expertise, volunteer experience and regional insight essential for advancing our profession.”

He concluded: “It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve in this role during such a pivotal time in our association’s history.” 

The new Secretary-Treasurer

Pablo Colombres, CPP (Argentina), who has served as the inaugural Chair of the LACRB in 2024, has been appointed to the role of Secretary-Treasurer on ASIS International’s Global Board of Directors – this will be effective from January 2025.

Due to this new appointment, Colombres must now step down as Chair of the LAC Regional Board.

In his role as Secretary-Treasurer, Colombres will serve as a member of the Global Board’s Executive Committee.

Colombres is the first Latin American Secretary-Treasurer, emphasizing ASIS International’s commitment to inclusivity and expanding its reach and influence across diverse regions.

Members to be seated in January 2025

  • Chair – Marco Vega, CPP, (Costa Rica) for a two-year term 
  • Vice Chair – Tatiana Scatena, (Brazil) for a two-year term 
  • Secretary/Treasurer – Alvar Orellana McBride, CPP, (Chile) for a two-year term 
  • At-Large Directors – Carlos Contreras, (Mexico) for a three-year term, Lyle Alexander, CPP (Trinidad and Tobago) for a three-year term and Jose Wilson Massa, CPP, (Brazil) for a three-year term

  • Basil Bewry, CPP, PCI, PSP (Jamaica), At-Large Director
  • Herbert Calderon, CPP, PCI, PSP (Peru), At-Large Director
  • Servio Camey, CPP, (Guatemala), At-Large Director

Strengthening regional collaboration

The board will focus on strengthening regional collaboration, advancing professional development opportunities and addressing emerging security challenges across the Latin American Caribbean region. 

The ASIS LATAM & CA 2024 Integrated Security Congress brings together influential experts, high-level executives and government authorities in the field of security to discuss crucial challenges and emerging opportunities in the industry.

The forum allows security professionals to establish and reinforce relationships while exchanging valuable knowledge and forging strategic alliances. 

ASIS International will announce its complete volunteer leadership in December 2024.
