A mass IT outage has hit multiple industries around the world, including broadcasters and banks, the BBC reports.

According to the news outlet, reports are suggesting that antivirus software company Crowdstrike issued an update that may be impacting Windows devices.

Law enforcement in Alaska have warned that following the IT outage, the 911 system may be unavailable, the report highlights.

Airlines down

Two major companies affected by the outage are American Airlines and United Airlines, which are the world’s largest airline by passenger numbers and world’s fifth biggest by passenger numbers, respectively.

The BBC says that no American Airlines flights are being allowed to take off, but the airline says it is working with Crowdstrike to fix any issues.

Likewise, United is holding all aircraft at their departure points.
