According to new reports, on 26 January, police officers in Haiti blocked roads and forced their way into the Port-au-Prince airport to protest the killing of fellow officers by armed gangs in the country.

The police, dressed in civilian clothes, first attacked the Prime Minister’s official residence, Reuters says, before heading to the airport where the Prime Minister was arriving back from a trip to Argentina.

After the Prime Minister returned to his residence, witnesses nearby reported hearing gunshots.

Roads around Port-au-Prince and in several cities to the north were blocked by the protesters.

Last week, four police officers near Port-au-Prince were killed by the Vitelhomme gang, while violence on Wednesday with the Savien gang in the town of Liancourt left seven officers dead, according to Haiti’s National Police and local media reports.
