Liberty Defense Holdings has announced the launch of its HEXWAVE system at the Palm Spring International Airport (PSP).

The HEXWAVE system will screen aviation workers for metallic and non-metallic threats.

According to the company, this technology satisfies a new TSA mandate on airport employee screening.

Liberty Defense says that it is raising the bar for aviation security as this new requirement comes closer to becoming mandatory for approximately 175 US airports.

The TSA mandate (TSA-NA-32-02), introduced in 2023 and set to be fully enforced by April 2026, requires US airports to implement employee screening procedures capable of detecting explosive threats for employees accessing secure areas.

According to Liberty, PSP selected HEXWAVE system in January 2025.

HEXWAVE is deployed with the help of Veterans High Risk Security Solutions, a California Certified small business that is Veteran owned and operated.

“A significant milestone”

Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty Defense commented: “Launching at Palm Springs International Airport is a significant milestone for Liberty as demand grows for proactive, AI-driven security screening solutions.

“This partnership highlights the critical importance of advanced threat detection in today’s evolving security landscape.

“By deploying HEXWAVE, PSP will more than satisfy the TSA’s mandate and set a new standard for how airports protect employees with minimal disruption to operations and employees’ work routines,” Frain concluded.

HEXWAVE

The company says that HEXWAVE uses proprietary AI and 3D radar imaging to detect concealed metallic and non-metallic threats, including:

  • Liquid
  • Powder
  • Plastic explosives
  • 3D-printed “ghost guns”
  • Other non-traditional weapons that conventional metal detectors often miss

The company outlines that the system will deliver fast, contactless, high-throughput screening through a walkthrough portal, that includes no stopping for individuals being screened to minimize disruption while maximizing security.

To protect privacy, Liberty’s HEXWAVE does not save images and security personnel see only a generic silhouette with possible threat areas identified.

“Setting a new benchmark”

Bryan Cunningham, President of Liberty Defense, Global Security Expert and former White House Lawyer and CIA Officer stated: “Airports are on the front lines of US national security and the safety of our people in a constantly evolving threat environment where insider risks are among the most challenging threats.

“With HEXWAVE, PSP adds a layer of protection to safeguard both employees and travelers.”

Cunningham continued: “This isn’t just about a mandate, it’s about setting a new benchmark for employee and passenger security, employee convenience and operational effectiveness.

“Whomever the bad actors and whatever the attack vectors, HEXWAVE, with our constantly updated AI analytics, is the last line of defense against today’s threats and is ‘future proofed’ against current and emerging security risks of all kinds,” he concluded.

“Lead by example”

Harry Barrett, Executive Director at Palm Springs International Airport explained: “Palm Springs Airport prides itself on being on the leading-edge for security and technology and is excited to be going live with HEXWAVE’s advanced screening technology.

“This partnership allows us to lead by example, both meeting the new TSA mandate and significantly enhancing the safety and security of our team and the traveling public,” Barrett concluded.
