In September 2022, thousands of security professionals will be attending one of Europe’s most anticipated trade fairs.

The security industry is booming – and the leading trade fair, Security Essen 2022, is taking place at Messe Essen, Germany, from 20-23 September. On show will be an array of innovative products and solutions and the event reflects the burgeoning demand for modern and networked security technology.

With demand growing among consumers, Security Essen hopes to open up new market opportunities across many sectors.

For thousands of trade visitors, specialists and industry experts it is not only the chance to walk through the exhibition halls, but to also participate in the extensive supporting program.

Participative forums will host speakers discussing the current challenges facing the industry whilst presenting forward-thinking but realistic solutions. Security Essen 2022 will also feature special theme days that are planned for public authorities, young professionals and friends from neighboring BeNeLux countries.

On BeNeLux Day (21 September), Security Essen and the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce will invite visitors from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg in particular to network; a specialist forum will accompany the day.

The four-day fair focusing on civil security has been staged for more than 40 years and organizers see it as a “meeting place for knowledge exchange”.

As part of a study trip lasting several days, the respected European DIY Retail Association (EDRA) and the Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN) has been inviting its member companies to visit Essen.

Oliver P Kuhrt, CEO of Messe Essen, said: “The visit of international decision makers from the DIY sector clearly underlines the position of Security Essen as an impulse-giving order and innovation platform. We are very pleased about the lively interest.”

The exhibition areas include “Services”, “Access, Mechatronics, Mechanics and Systems”, “Perimeter”, “Video”, “Fire, Intrusion and Systems” and “Digital Networking Security”.

ACRE, a provider of state-of-the-art security systems, will demonstrate its latest advancements to its “super enterprise” security solutions and showcase the advanced technologies that help companies and people connect safely, return to work in the wake of COVID-19 and secure infrastructure, data and people.

Harm Radstaak, President ACRE International said: “We look forward to working closely with our customers and partners to transform security efforts and support more efficient operations.”

The highlights delegates can look forward to are:

DNS Conference

The Digital Networking Security (DNS) Conference will take place on the first and second day of Security Essen in Hall 7 and is free of charge for trade fair visitors. IOT devices and Internet connections of products and services, which were previously purely physical or self-sufficient, are creating new possible targets for cyber-criminals.

Smart homes, digital company buildings, video surveillance and access control in the cloud are just a few examples of the fact that the confrontation with data protection and information security is inevitable in the future – even for the previously purely physical world of security.

The speakers for the 14 presentations will cover topics such as “Between cybercrime and cyberwarfare – why cybersecurity is a matter for the boss” (Thomas Köhler, non-fiction author), “DDOS attacks via IoT devices” (David Walkiewicz, Director Test Research at AV-TEST) and “Next Level Security Awareness Training” (Alex Wyllie, founder and CEO of IT-Seal).

Security Experts’ Forum

In the Security Experts Forum in Hall 6, the exhibiting companies at Security Essen will present the latest product innovations and provide an insight into practical experience on a daily basis, while the Fire Protection Forum in Hall 7 will provide comprehensive information on fire prevention and firefighting.

The titles of the total of ten lectures on 22 and 23 September are, for example, “New Technologies and Innovations in Fire Protection – News from Research and Development” (Dirk Aschenbrenner, Director of the Dortmund Fire Department), “Use of Drones in Fire Protection” (Christian Liebezeit, m-c-quadrat) or “Fire Protection in IT Basic Protection – Linking Safety and Security” (Lars Oliver Laschinsky, Institute for Safety and Hazard Training).

The partner of the Fire Protection Forum is the Essen House of Technology. The presentations in the Digital Networking Security Conference and the Fire Protection Forum will be held in German and English; the presentations in the Security Experts Forum will be in German only.

Security Essen Theme Days

Security Essen 2022 will host important decision-makers and high-ranking politicians among its guests. The Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul and the Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mona Neubaur, have announced their visit on 21 September.

At the same time, the Authorities and CSO Day will be held for the first time, which is aimed at those responsible for Security and Chief Security Officers (CSOs) at public institutions. Representatives of public authorities will receive discounted admission.

Training and further education day

In cooperation with the German Federal Association of the Security Industry (BDSW), the Training and Further Education Day will be held on the first day of the trade fair. Trainees, students and “retrainees” in the security industry are invited to attend. The program will enable them to make valuable contacts and get to know future fields of work better.

How to do business with the United Nations

Organized by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the German- American Chamber of Commerce, a delegation of purchasers from the United Nations (UN) will present the UN’s procurement system while discovering the latest developments and products.

In this way, Security Essen links supply and demand in a perfectly fitting manner.

For example, a seminar entitled “How to do Business with the UN” is on the program. In it, German companies from the security sector can get to know the structures of UN procurement and network with purchasers.

In addition, a round table with industry experts and one-on-one meetings with UN purchasers are planned during the visit. During a guided tour of the fair, the guests will obtain information directly from selected exhibiting companies.
