According to new reports, a gunman has shot and killed eight people, while wounding at least eight others, at a mall north of Dallas on 6 May 2023.
As outlined by Reuters, the gunman is believed to have acted alone and his motive remains unknown. He was killed by a police officer after he began firing outside of the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Allen, Texas.
One of the victims killed was named as Christian LaCour, a security professional from Allied Universal.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Christian LaCour, our security professional who was tragically killed while protecting the customers and employees of the Allen Premium Outlets,” the company said in a statement.
“All other security professionals assigned to the location are safe, accounted for and being offered grief counseling and additional support. Security professionals from nearby areas are commended for covering their shifts so they can grieve and begin to heal… Our thoughts go out to the victims, their loved ones and the community of Allen.”
Medical City Healthcare, which runs 16 hospitals in the area, said that its trauma centers were treating eight of the wounded victims, who ranged in age from five to 61.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting an “unspeakable tragedy,” in a statement.
