Abraham Alvarez, Vice President, Product Management, Cameras at Verkada discloses the overall aims for the company.

Can you tell me about yourself and your role at Verkada?

I lead the Cameras product line at Verkada, where I’m responsible for the strategy, development and delivery of both the camera hardware and also all of the incredible software features that we build around it.

This means that I spend a lot of my time thinking about AI and how we can unlock even more value for our customers with the latest large vision and large language models, and how we can leverage computer vision to do everything from detecting loitering, to conducting reverse image analysis to find a suspect or even track occupancy trends of a space.

I helped build and scale early product offerings at Flock Safety and Axon, so I’ve been part of the transformation that’s happening across the security industry with frontier technology.

It’s this transformation that made me so excited to join Verkada: with its natively integrated offering and deep roots in AI, the company is truly pushing the boundaries of what physical security can be – not just protecting people and places, but also unlocking operational efficiencies with data and intelligence to power connected, intelligent spaces.

What is the overall goal for Verkada?

Verkada’s vision is ultimately to build the operating system for the physical world and we’re all driven by our mission to protect people and places in a privacy-sensitive way.

Our Command platform is the foundation for this future of security, natively integrating our six product lines – video security cameras, access control, environmental sensors, alarms, workplace and intercoms – on one streamlined, easy-to-use interface that’s accessible no matter whether you’re at your desk or on the go.

Command delivers a powerful, scalable solution for all kinds of organizations, whether it’s your local grocer or a multinational food producer.

By pairing thoughtful, intuitive design with the latest advancements in AI and computer vision technology, we’re making the communities that we all live and work in safer.

Can you tell me about the key verticals and markets you serve?

More than 30,000 customers across 93 countries today trust Verkada as their physical security layer.

What’s so awesome in my role is that I get to spend time with our customers every day and no customer is alike – we protect organizations of all sizes and industries.

I’m also really excited about how our customers are leveraging Verkada in really novel ways.

While we are purpose-built for security and safety, many of our customers have found that Verkada’s solutions are also driving business efficiency with data, insights and context that support operational improvements and strategic decision-making.

In retail, for example, customers are using analytics from Verkada’s platform to understand and track occupancy trends, dwell time and foot traffic – which all inform improved staffing and merchandising strategies.

In manufacturing, organizations are now linking video security footage – which was previously only used for safety and compliance purposes – with data from their production HMI via Verkada’s Helix API to enable quality control teams to easily search for serial numbers and pull up visual context to verify chips, dents or dings.

Verkada has recently raised a significant sum of funding. How is the company planning to use this to expand?

We are really excited about our Series E funding round.

This fresh infusion of capital will help us continue to accelerate product innovation, which spans everything from even deeper investments in AI to building even more integrations and introducing new product lines that build on our existing platform offering.
