The US Department of Homeland Security has recently confirmed that it will be working closely with Qatar to provide security for the World Cup which is due to take place later this year.
DHS Under Secretary for Policy Robert Silvers met Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani in Doha to discuss strengthening Qatar’s event security, port security, screening, contraband interdiction and risk management capabilities.
A joint statement from the US DHS and the Ministry of Interior of the State of Qatar stated that the following security commitments have been made:
Under Secretary Silvers and MOI Under Secretary H.E. Major General Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Faisal Al Thani also signed an agreement to help identify any individuals that may be linked to terrorism or trafficking of illegal items such as substances, weapons, people and currency.
