The Wyze Lock Bolt launched this week aimed primarily at home and small business users across the US and Canada. The fingerprint lock can also be monitored and opened by a cellphone app.
Wyze Labs Inc was founded by former Amazon employees and is based in Kirkland, Washington in 2017 selling security products, including movement sensors, cameras, gun safes and now digital smart locks.
Wyze Lock Bolt uses fingerprint unlocking or a number keypad and cellphone app. Like the company’s other products it aims to be ‘competitively priced’ at under $80 (CAD 104.98).
This product is the third co-branding cooperation with its Singapore-registered Chinese partner Lockin. In December 2019 the pair released a co-branded smart lock in North America, which sold 5,000 units in nine hours. In March 2022, the Wyze Gun Safe was the second joint release.
In Asia Lockin has supplied thousands of smart locks for Chinese apartments and believes the latest cooperation will boost its sales in North America.
Barry Wang, Director of Lockin’s international business unit said: “North America is currently the world’s largest smart door lock market, and it will be one of the key markets of Lockin in the next few years.”
In the future he says Lockin will focus on smart security products for North American consumers, “especially smart locks”.
Dave Crosby, Head of Marketing for Wyze made headlines in 2020 when he tracked down and caught a thief who had broken into his car. The thief had been captured on Crosby’s Wyze Outdoor Cam. Supported by the police, he identified the man and arranged a meeting to buy the stolen property which was advertised on Craigslist. He filmed the whole experience and his YouTube video became one of the company’s most viewed marketing videos in 2021.
